The Internet is a wonderful resource and yet, if misused, it can contribute to a plethora of problems.

This is especially true of health and medical related information.

There is much health related information available online, a significant proportion of which is either suspect, or downright dangerous.

Whilst I realize that governments and ‘big pharma’ do not always have our best interests at heart, and that ‘corruption’ of varying types can occur for a variety of reasons, this site is a very useful resource:

If you are looking for a good source of ‘alternative’ health information then check out Natural News, which is one of the better sites of its genre.

Save a life for $3

Years ago I learnt First Aid during Army training.

Decades later, the only bits I could recall easily were about Russian gas attacks and related First Aid procedures. I expect this is due in part to the subject being highly emotive.

But CPR? I would have struggled to recall it; yet CPR skills are much more likely to be of use.

In recent years I went on a St John’s Ambulance First Aid course to refresh my skills. The trouble is, I still have trouble remembering how to do CPR because of the brief nature of the training and the time that has passed since I did the course.

I am sure that many people are like me – we would struggle to recall how to do CPR. And yet some one’s life could depend on our competence.

The Red Cross have come up with an excellent idea.

The Red Cross has a new service which lets you download animated CPR instructions to your compatible 3G/Next G^TM mobile/cellphone for $3, to help refresh your CPR skills.

Clearly, content contained in the download is not a substitute for, nor does it constitute, First Aid training. You should not rely upon this content as a source of First Aid training. That said, it may mean the difference between life and death for someone near you one day. You may be the ‘last line of defence’ for the person concerned and if you ‘drop the ball’ they will die. If that happens, how will you feel knowing that for $3 you could have saved them? Pretty cheap right?

The power to save a life is in your hands – CPR on your mobile telephone.

Here is a brief explanation of a technique which could one day save your life, or that of someone you know.

I was sent it by a thoughtful relative (on my wife’s side – she has some wonderful family and that includes her mum!)

The relative sent me a PowerPoint file.

Not everyone is able to view PowerPoint files so I converted the presentation to Flash and uploaded the resulting video to my server because this heart attack self treatment technique is such important information. Flash movies are the most widely viewable format online, so most people should be able to view it.

Besides being wonderful news with very positive implications for the future, some may view it as a good investment opportunity.
