How competitive are you? Are you aware of the new competition paradigm?

Is competition important to you?

I know when I was at school we had public lists of exam results. In my view it was a good thing and helped introduce students to the realities of adult life. After all, that is one of the purposes of an education. Well, it seems it used to be. Nowadays, all to commonly, I hear how the ‘little dears’ are being protected from “negative outcomes” by the avoidance of competitive scenarios at school. Some preparation for life!

In fact, competition is even more important in this modern era. And many people have not woken up to the why. This is understandable because many have habits which were formed years ago, prior to the Internet age.

In my view it is even more important today to be the best at what you do.

In the past you might have ‘got away’ with being second best, third rate, or worse.

Today it is much harder.

Why is this so?

Because the Internet has reduced imperfect competition and caused aspects of perfect competition to trend upwards. Imperfect and perfect competition are economic terms (I have an ancient Economics qualification) and you can look into them further by following the Wikipedia links I have provided.

Simply speaking, and I quote from Wikipedia:

There may also be imperfect competition in markets due to buyers or sellers lacking information about prices and the goods being traded.

The Internet is a great leveler of the ‘playing field’. These days for example I try to deal with experts and top class service providers for a variety of reasons. The Internet gives me the ability and freedom to attempt this, whereas before all of our options were much more limited. This practice will increase exponentially in years to come in the general population.

The simple equation – if you are not the best, then your potential customers will find it easy to go (click) elsewhere.

Another simple point: if you are working in your life purpose, with passion and love for what you do then you are on the right path to providing an excellent service to your clients, or employer.

There are many things I am very good at, however only some that I am excellent at. Increasingly I am concentrating on the latter. One example is that I now refer people for email tracing to Ed Opperman of Opperman Investigations Inc – see email tracing article . Private Investigation work I do these days tends to be people related such as Mystery shopping – Staff & Business Quality Assessment Investigations, in which I have high expertise. If people need other Private Detective work completing which is outside my specialty areas, then I refer them to Victorian Detective Services – one of Australia’s elite, top notch Private Investigation agencies. Mark Grover and his crack team at Victorian Detective Services work on anything from small private cases to TV show investigations and matters where they report directly to the CEOs of multinational companies.

For surveillance in the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Sunshine Coast regions of Queensland I recommend you check out:

Do you need world class (elite) surveillance services?

Another example of the principle of excellence – when I build new websites these days I don’t fart around with cumbersome stuff like Microsoft’s Expression Web or Adobe’s Dreamweaver. I ‘delegate’ the job to one slick website builder application which rocks. Check out my comments here and follow the links and you will see why – there is even a color PDF brochure you can download from my page. And the blogs I manage are built on a top notch theme which works really well and looks good. Simply speaking, the website builder software and blog theme I use enables me to focus on producing quality content – I do not need to delegate the actual website or blog building because it is SO EASY.

Have a think about what you want to do in life, what you have a real deep passion for, and that for which you have a genuine dream. Avoid whimsical thinking and bear in mind that you may need some counselling or other therapy to get to the bottom of who you really are. Don’t waste your life in a dead end job thinking “I hate Mondays”.

In conclusion, understand this…..the world and the Internet will move on without you. Be competitive or you WILL be eliminated.
