Is it safe to visit a physician (GP)?

Are you really safe when you visit your doctor – physician – general practitioner – specialist?

Have a read of this email I sent to a surgeon friend (Ophthalmologist - eye surgeon)…

Hello Roger,

Your dedication to your profession and patients is not only inspiring, but reassuring, helping to restore some faith in the Australian medical profession and health care system in general.

Frankly, over the years I have attended a significant number of general practitioners here in Australia and have had many causes for concern about the quality of care. On top of that there are the concerns about statistics and reports which I have seen about standards in a number of hospitals.

I have come across some good doctors (GPs) and appreciate them of course, however the incidence of poor quality has been far too high.

Today I read about a British case:

I saw seven different GPs but not ONE spotted my brain tumour

This lady would have got better odds for a good result playing roulette for black or red at the casino.

I know one thing, if ever my eyes needed an eye surgeon I would not consider anyone but you.

Warm Regards,

Alex

If ever I need to see a specialist, as opposed to a GP, I ask Roger for a recommendation. A prudent course of action I think.

Roger is not only a really nice guy, he, along with his business partner, spend their own money flying to a remote region to operate free of charge on some disadvantaged indigenous people who otherwise would not get the eye care they need.
