Children who did not know where fruit came from!
I was brought up in England, which included some time spent in rural areas. I was also fortunate in having a good education.
Today I was shocked to read that what presumably must have been a significant number of children in the Manchester area of the United Kingdom, did not know where fruit comes from. As a result, the local council is arranging for all of Manchester’s 135 parks are to be planted with fruit and nuts, as well as herbs such as mint and parsley.

What a good idea! Besides being green, an excellent use of resources and a good way of teaching kids, the scheme will have many other benefits. It is also heartening to see a good idea coming out of bureaucracy!
It does raise the question about the quality of the kids’ teachers and school curriculum though! I remember the days when we learnt about all this stuff. Today, it seems that other things are deemed more important, such as political correctness.
