Australian bush fire horror.
Most of the readers of my blog are in North America. No doubt many of you have heard something of the horrific bush fires here in Australia, most notably in the state of Victoria.
The Victorian fires are the worst in Australia’s history and at least 108 126 173 181 200 people are dead, around 750 1033 homes have been destroyed and some small settlements have been wiped off the map. It also appears that some of the fires have been deliberately lit, which is why Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has mentioned “mass murder” in context of the fires.
Shocking, horrific….words cannot properly convey the horror and the suffering. At least one hospital ran out of morphine.
To help, you can visit this page for details, which is published by the Herald Sun – a local Victorian news service.
For more on the fires visit this page. Also produced by the Herald Sun, the page contains some very comprehensive coverage.
My condolences and sympathy to all affected. Admiration and respect for the brave firefighters, other emergency services personnel and members of the public who have fought so bravely.
