Things will get worse! And why you need clear vision.

Goal setting is something which we all do, whether we realise it or not. Some of us write our goals down, however any kind of planning usually has a goal in mind. One of the goals of planning a holiday for example is to have a good time.

Some goals are very easy to achieve and others are very pleasant to contemplate; such as holidays. Other goals are much harder to reach and in some cases we don’t really want to reach them even though we might think we do. This is because what we think upstairs in our brainbox does not match what we have downstairs in our heartbox. I have touched on this type of conflict issue before on this blog – in due course I will write more on this type of conflict too.

Getting back to the point of my article today, goal setting is much easier if we face up to reality as we are setting the goal. Two of the key realities that I want to focus on today is that things will get worse and that you need to have a clear vision.

What do I mean by ” things will get worse”?

Once you have started upon your journey towards your goal you will come across difficulties and delays which you did not foresee. These difficulties and delays may seem so bad that you feel like giving up on your goal – many people do at this stage. Sometimes it can get very dark indeed… just imagine how some inventors must have felt when they tried so many times to perfect something – it would have been very easy for them to have given up. Edison comes to mind.

One of the antidotes to the negative thoughts that can assail one’s mind whilst going through a difficult patch on the journey towards a worthwhile goal, is to focus upon the only thing that you can really see very clearly indeed, which is your goal itself. It is important to create a clear concept of your goal in your mind and stick to it no matter what happens.

I suggest that you memorise the following quote and think about it regularly through the day, especially when you are going through a difficult patch:

“Before you begin a thing remind yourself that difficulties and delays quite impossible to foresee are ahead. You can only see one thing clearly, and that is your goal. Form a mental vision of that and cling to it through thick and thin.”

The key to victory then, lies within your own mind!
